JOHN: Welcome to VTalk Radio Photography Spotlight. Today's program is sponsored by Morephotos.com. The online total photo sales solution for professional photographers worldwide. I'm your host, John Bentley.

JOHN: Today we're in the studio with Lori Krieger of Photography By Lori of Jacksonville, Florida. Welcome to the program Lori to VTalk Radio's Photographers' Spotlight.

LORI: Hello there. Thanks for having me.

JOHN: Glad to have you on the program today. Can you tell us a little bit about your photography?

LORI: Well, my photography is based here in Jacksonville, Florida. We are based in Jacksonville, but we work all the north Florida. Ah, even as south as St. Augustine, Orlando, and Daytona. We also work the south Georgia area. I've got a couple proposals actually for New Jersey for this coming 2008, but generally this is the area I work. We specialize in affordable weddings, corporate events, and outdoor portraits. Corporate events are just for corporate events. We do large or small corporate events, but we also do corporate image, corporate head shots, that's pretty much what we specialize in.

JOHN: I see a lot of your portraits are outdoor shots. Do you prefer shooting outdoor as opposed to a studio?

LORI: I do. I have a natural ability, I think because when I was younger, I did a lot of outdoor shooting. I just have such an eye for it, and it just comes natural to me and easier than the studio does. So, it just seems to work out for me and when I initially started my business, I was doing studio also, but didn't feel as comfortable as I should and so I, you know what, I'm gonna specialize in outdoor portraits. I live in Florida so why not.

JOHN: I see you also have a lot of families and have their pictures taken. Do you also do senior photos?

LORI: No, I don't do it. If somebody calls and asks to do it, then certainly I propose a cost for them, but usually that is what the school photographer does, somebody who does school photography usually gets those jobs or they go into a studio that already, maybe a regular studio building as a photographer and they go in and shoot there, but typically I don't do that.

JOHN: Now, along the corporate line of photography, what are some of the businesses that you've shot?

LORI: Well, I've shot for Maxim Magazine. I've done two Superbowls for them. I've done Club Car, they had their annual meeting here in Florida. I've done several grand openings for A.J. Wright. I've shot for a corporation called Blue Links, CSX. Compass Bank, Mars Advertising which is as big. The NBA, and a host of other things, but they're listed on my website. The different clients I've had.

JOHN: Speaking of your website, Lori, why don't you give your website address and contact information while we have yeah.

LORI: Sure, it is www.photographybylori.info. My email address is photographybylori@hotmail.com. And you can contact me anytime. I also have a link on my website if you need to contact me there.

JOHN: What about a phone number they can reach you?

LORI: Oh sure, (904) 234-6025

JOHN: Now I assume that you do a lot of different photography in different facilities, areas around Florida. Beach photography are there certain beaches or banquet facilities or parks, or anything along those lines that you incorporate in your business.

LORI: No, I mean, since Jacksonville literally hugs the coast, and we have miles of beaches, the locals know which beaches are conducive to shooting and not shooting, and certainly as a photographer you should probably have that knowledge also. We go up to a place called Big Talbot Island which kind of hugs the south Georgia, north Florida border which is nice and has big trees and fields with sand dunes and stuff like that. Jax Beach every now and again because it has a little bit of a boardwalk on it, and you can use some of that as your background and so forth; rather than just having plain sand and the ocean. You always try to have something there to implement into your photos.

JOHN: I see a lot of portraits of family pets on your website too. Can you tell us a little bit about shooting an animal.

LORI: You know, I have a knack for children and pets. I just do. I laugh because I just have a way with them and early on in my career, pet photography was huge and it's still there. I still get calls. I get, you know not as many as I did in the past, but I still get calls, and I come to the client and we can go out somewhere or we can stay in your back yard, or in your house, but that's a lot of fun and I actually end up shooting more pictures than I had planned on because I just want to get all the shots I can and it's rewarding to see the owners' reaction on the photos they see. A lot of times these folks don't have children so these pets are their children so they want some nice portraits. We make portraits just like they were humans.

JOHN: I'll have to bring my fiance and our cat in some time for a session.

LORI: Come on, we can do it.

JOHN: We are in the studio with Lori Krieger of Photography by Lori of Jacksonville, Florida. You are listening to VTalk Radio's Photographers' Spotlight. We will be right back after these important messages.

VTALK RADIO ... we now return you to VTalk Radio Photographer's Spotlight with your host, John Bentley.

JOHN: Welcome back to VTalk Radio'S Photographer's Spotlight. We are in the studio with Lori Krieger of Photography by Lori of Jacksonville, Florida. Welcome back to the program Lori.

LORI: Thanks this is fun.

JOHN: We've been talking about your business and all the different kinds of photography you do. Can you tell us why you got into photography in the first place?

LORI: Well, I was working a 40 hour a week job and it was a job it wasn't a career or anything. I was working for publications as a manager, but was doing my photography as part time and having some work done that way as far as selling my images to local magazines, and then a friend of mine came to me she didn't have enough money to pay for a wedding photographer and asked me to do it. I said I had zero experience shooting wedding photography, but she had loved my photos, so I went ahead and said yes with a manual camera, manual flash, and a 50 mm lens and shot the wedding. She loved it and I thought to myself, wow I can do this. And the rest is history.

JOHN: Sounds like you have a lot of fun doing it.

LORI: I do. It's like an artist. I think if you paint or you draw and then you get to see your work in the final stage. You look and say wow, that's pretty good. So far that's how I evolved.

JOHN: Sure. I'm an amateur photographer myself, I understand everything you talk about there. It is like an art form. It's a lot of fun I really enjoy. How long have you been in business as a professional photographer.

LORI: Since 1990. I sold a piece of work in 1986, but I worked for a magazine, but I actually made a little bit of money in 1986, but went full time in 1990.

JOHN: Now this is not the only thing you are up to. You are also designing a manual I understand. Tell me a little bit about that.

LORI: I am. I'm designing a manual. It's in its final stages. It's called, Your Photography Success and it is a manual, it's not a book. It's a product we have laid out. We've laid out the information in a way for you to start making money with your photo gear right now today. In other words, let me break it down a little bit further, you know, What makes me different than the books store publications or manuals there, is we have actual forms. We've done the leg work as far as years in the business. We've laid everything out in a matter of fact way. We have the forms we need for your contracts, your copyright, rate sheets. We're basically holding your hand step by step. Literally, we're telling you how to have the pens on hand at your work station and your rolodex, and your fax, and we've laid it out, we feel like its a very easy product to learn and you won't have to come back and say, "Well I really don't understand that!" And you'll have to ask for technical help from somebody else in the business. I think somebody who is already doing photography as a hobby, certainly will enjoy this. But even somebody who has no experience, yet wants to get into the business it is way ahead of anything else that's out there, we believe. It's called Your Photography Success.

JOHN: When do you expect that manual to be out?

LORI: We're hoping fall, early fall.

JOHN: Alright. We'll keep our eyes open for that. Let's get back to your photography a little bit. What's your most important goal when you're shooting a client?

LORI: Customer Service. I believe it's customer service. I think when I'm shooting, customer service. I go into every photo shoot and I kind of use the analogy I'm an airplane pilot and you would hope that an airplane pilot goes into every flight saying there is no room for errors today. So I go into a photo shoot saying there is no room for error today because in particular weddings, you know, if I error in my photography today, they're not having another wedding. The importance of making sure that I do the best job and focus on that bride today.

JOHN: Great. We are in the studio with Lori Krieger of Photography by Lori of Jacksonville, Florida. Lori can you give us your website and contact information again before we let you go?

LORI: Sure, it is www.photographybylori.info. You can also reach me at photographybylori@hotmail.com. And the phone number is (904) 234-6025.
